Dr. Sandra Cabot’s Liver Cleansing Diet
The Liver is one of the hardest working organs in the body. The liver is important for detoxification and thus assisting our body to excrete harmful substances. Current diet and lifestyle puts burden on the liver, as it struggles hard to keep up with the demand placed on it. Chemicals, alcohol, tobacco, hormones, drugs, pollutants all get metabolised through the liver. The Liver Cleansing Diet is a best-selling publication. Amongst other things the book recommends trying The Liver Cleansing Diet if you suffer from allergies of any kind, have poor digestion, suffer constipation or Irritable Bowel Syndrome, can’t tolerate fats or alcohol, suffer headaches, drink alcohol regularly, or would like to lose weight. Aside from these reasons, everyone benefits from doing a liver cleanse every once in a while due to the nature of our toxic environment. The diet plan is for 8 weeks and cuts out sugar, refined, packaged and junk food. Red meat and dairy is also removed from the diet. It concentrates on lots of raw fruit, vegetables and juices. Legumes, grains, seeds and nuts are combined as protein sources and snacks. Organic chicken and eggs are allowed (though not in the middle 4 weeks). The Livatone powder or capsules will increase the ability of the liver to detoxify and used in conjunction with the diet give better results as it stimulates liver detoxification pathways. Whilst there are numerous recipes to follow in the back of the book, simply combining allowable protein foods with salads, vegetables, pastas or rice for lunches and dinners is quick and easy. Juices, smoothies, muesli, fruit, toast and spreads are breakfast options. SHOPPING LIST
